About Us

It Started With My Own Frustrating Problem

I was a college athlete training during the summer, and every time I was finally getting into a rhythm working on skating, situational plays, or battling in the crease, the net would slide out of place.

Suddenly I was out of position for the next shot, or the net was no longer where it was supposed to be.

Everyone knows the pegs most rinks use: the rusted metal ones with one rounded spike in the middle that barely hold in the ice.

Every drill would pause. Every rep was interrupted. And instead of focusing on getting better, I was constantly resetting the net.

I started looking for something that would actually fix the problem, but the options I found were either too expensive or just did not seem worth it.

So I decided to build my own.

Building Something Better

The first versions of Polar Pegs were made from scratch in my parents garage and tested during practices.

Some did not hold. Some broke. Some worked better than others.

But every version taught me something, and I knew I had something worth pursuing if I kept improving the design.

I kept making changes, bringing new versions to the rink, and testing them again and again until I finally had a design that actually worked.

Along the way, I reached out to goalie coaches, goaltenders, and other hockey business professionals to test the prototypes and give me honest feedback.

Their input shaped every version of Polar Pegs. They pointed out things I never would have thought of on my own, and each piece of feedback made the product better.

From My Personal Project To A Company

At the same time, I was still balancing classes, practices, work, and being a student-athlete.

I was lucky to be part of my college’s entrepreneurial program, where I learned how to take an idea and turn it into a real business. That program helped me start Polar Pegs.

While still in school, I began patenting the design, officially formed the LLC, and launched the website.

Less than a year after first realizing there was a problem, Polar Pegs went from an idea in my parents garage to a product being used by goalies and coaches.

Why I Started Polar Pegs

Polar Pegs has never just been about hockey net pegs.

I started this company for the athlete who wants to get better but cannot justify spending a fortune on equipment.

For the athlete who believes every rep matters. For the goalie staying after practice for extra shots. For the coach trying to make every drill count. For the family looking for something that will actually help their child improve without breaking the bank, because we all know hockey is not cheap.

I know what it feels like to want better equipment and not be able to afford it.

That is why I built Polar Pegs to be:

  • Affordable
  • Durable
  • Easy to use
  • Built by a goalie who needed it

I believe good training equipment should not only be for the teams with the biggest budgets.

And I believe that when the net stays in place, goalies can focus on what matters most: getting better.
